Drs. Yaghoub Sayad-Yaghoubi and Greg Smith established Calsmelt Pty Ltd as a private Australian-based company in 2005. Calsmelt holds an exclusive license to commercialize the Thermical™ aluminium carbothermic smelting technology. That technology has been developed and is held by Thermical IP Pty Ltd, which is a second company, also owned by Smith and Sayad-Yaghoubi.
Thermical™ technology has been developed over the period between 2002 and 2009. There are three patent applications which are in prosecution in many jurisdictions, as well as a significant amount of trade secret information that, Calsmelt believes, encompass all of the understanding required to justify a next scaled-up development activity designed to provide all of the necessary engineering data for the construction of a significant semi-works plant.
